“Life planning” is often associated with career orientation, and this Project has the vision to revisit the term to pioneer a new way of thinking about life planning from the health perspective and facilitate secondary school teachers to deliver health education in a well-organised approach. The Project is entitled “Healthy Life Planning: Assist Students to Acquire and Practise Health Knowledge and Skills”. ASAP is commonly used to abbreviate As Soon As Possible, which metaphorically carries a meaning in this Project that young people should plan for a healthy life as soon as they can. Also, it brings out its purpose to let students acquire and practise health knowledge and skills. From 2019 to 2023, we accomplished the goal by providing quality health teaching resources to secondary school teachers who teach S1-S3. The fruitful outcomes have been included in the “Adolescent Health Education Guide” and distributed to all secondary schools in the city. We publish the teaching materials on the Internet in phases and organise teacher webinars to facilitate users to share their experience in applying these materials and developing school-based health education programmes. The ultimate goal is to encourage more teachers to use them to benefit young people.
The nine teaching units provide education materials suitable for secondary schools (S.1-S.3), which can be further tailored by teachers and used according to the needs of students (click here to enter the resource corner). Reading materials (over 30 reading passages) are available for students, supplemented with teaching slides and worksheet templates. There are also many stories describing different life situations of teenagers, providing a rich source of materials for case analysis and discussion in class.
We highly recommend the Guide to secondary school teachers (*although it is available in Chinese only), where readers will find guidance and practical tips to help education teams improve their health curriculum and school-based educational programmes for young people. Secondary school teachers can get a hard copy of the Guide for free. You may click here to fill out the request form (*in Chinese only).
